Fantastic opportunity for a statutory planning specialist!
We are seeking a Principal Urban Planner with extensive statutory planning knowledge, to take carriage of the assessment of high-profile and complex development applications, provision of pre-lodgment advice to developers and consultants and investigation/resolution of complex and sensitive planning matters. The Principal Urban Planner operates with minimal supervision and provides significant technical and professional support to the Manager Planning Services.
This position will require exceptional time management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities including coaching and mentoring other staff, working to strict deadlines, all whilst maintaining a sense of humour and positive outlook. In addition, the successful candidate will have highly developed report writing and communication skills and extensive experience negotiating good outcomes with a range of stakeholders. A passion for positive leadership, a commitment to continuous improvement and a desire to deliver the best possible planning service to our residents and customers is essential.
You must be able to demonstrate significant experience operating in a senior level position, leading key planning projects including statutory assessment, application of the Residential Design Codes, Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, local planning policies and other related planning instruments, in addition to an intuitive sense to foster good planning outcomes with a focus on delivering excellence in customer service.

- Extensive experience in statutory land use planning in Western Australia, including the assessment of planning related applications within a senior level statutory planning environment.
- Specialist knowledge of the Western Australian planning system, including the application of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations and the Residential Design Codes.
- Extensive experience in negotiating, facilitating and/or delivering statutory land use planning outcomes.
- Highly developed analytical, research and report writing skills, including the exercise of discretion under delegated authority.
- Previous local and/or state government experience in Western Australia.
