Supervisor Urban Forest – Trees and Streetscapes

  • Salary: $97,802 - $105,447 per annum
  • Plus up to 15% superannuation (conditions apply)

Are you an experienced leader with a passion for urban forestry, arboriculture and delivering high-quality community outcomes?

The City of Joondalup is seeking a motivated and experienced Supervisor Urban Forest to join our Parks and Natural Environment team. Reporting to the Coordinator Urban Forest, you will play a key role in coordinating the delivery of tree and streetscape maintenance programs, implementing capital works projects, and leading operational teams and contractors to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the management and enhancement of the City's urban forest while leading a skilled workforce and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety and customer service excellence.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Monitoring contractor performance and ensuring compliance with contract specifications and City requirements.
  • Assisting with budget preparation, monitoring expenditure and identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Providing technical advice and resolving customer enquiries relating to urban forest operations.
  • Supporting employee development through coaching, mentoring, performance management and workforce planning.

What you’ll bring

To be successful for this position you will have relevant experience in urban forest operations, arboriculture, or tree management, and will hold the following mandatory licences and tickets:

  • Current WA ‘MR’ or ‘HR’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card).
  • Leadership qualification.
  • Chainsaw Operators Certificate.

Supported training

The City of Joondalup is committed to supporting the right person to develop and grow in the role. If you do not currently hold them, the City will support successful applicants to obtain the following mandatory certificates:

  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011)
  • Current Elevated Work Platform Certificate (TLILIC2005A)
  • Current Basic Worksite Traffic Management Certificate.
  • Current Licence to Operate a Slewing Mobile Crane.

  • Tertiary qualification in Arboriculture, Horticulture or a related discipline and/or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance of street trees and streetscapes, including trees under powerlines.
  • Financial management including budget preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, managing employees, contractors and their performance.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical advice and resolving customer enquiries relating to urban forest operations.
